History of ServiceMaster DSI in Chicago
In 1981, founding partner Rick Veldman bought his first franchise: ServiceMaster of Addison, Illinois. He originally provided carpet cleaning services only, but soon expanded to the restoration side of the industry, offering fire and water damage restoration near the Chicago area. His business continued to grow throughout the decade and became known for quickly restoring homes and businesses to their pre-loss condition.
As the company grew, so did demand for his restoration and cleaning services. HVAC cleaning, mold remediation, and reconstruction and contracting were soon added to the list of services in order to satisfy this growing need. The expanding company took on the name ServiceMaster Disaster Services Inc., or ServiceMaster DSI.
In 1990, Ron Veldman came on as a partner to help manage the fast-growing business. Around this time, Bill and Carol Kumpfer began a branch of ServiceMaster Restore out of the garage of their home in Kansas City, MO. In 1995, Kim Brooks, Pat Cahill, and Steve Draisey joined Bill and Carol as partners, and construction services were also added to their service roster.
After a series of tornadoes in Jackson, TN, the Kansas City office paired with ServiceMaster DSI in Chicago to provide relief to the area. Over the next ten years, the mutually beneficial business relationship continued, and in late 2012, the Kansas City and Chicago companies merged into one: ServiceMaster DSI. After many acquisitions over 30 years, ServiceMaster DSI now operates 13 service centers throughout Illinois, Colorado, Indiana, and Missouri and employs over 300 people.
